Living Without Limits Smart House - Open House 10/8/2025

On October 8, 2025, MidState Arc and Living Without Limits proudly hosted the Open House and Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony for the Living Without Limits Smart House and MidState Arc Administrative Building in Meriden, CT!

This exciting event celebrated innovation, accessibility, and independence — showcasing the incredible technologies inside the Smart Home, including the Living Without Limits Advanced Remote Monitoring System (ARMS), designed to help individuals live more independently.

We were honored to welcome so many distinguished guests and community partners, including local and state leaders who joined us in celebrating this milestone. Special thanks to the State of Connecticut for presenting a proclamation recognizing Pam Fields for her years of dedicated service.

A huge thank-you to everyone who attended: City of Meriden Mayor, Kevin Scarpati; City of Wallingford Mayor, Vincent Cervoni; Sen. Chris Murphy outreach representative, Genevieve Perruccio; Rep. Jane Garibay; Rep. Hilda Santiago; Rep. Michael Quinn; Policy Analyst for the Aging Committee, Will Cromwell; CT DAS Commissioner, Amy Porter; CT Tech Act Project Program Director, Arlene Lugo; CT DDS Deputy Commissioner, Elisa Velardo; and all of MidState Chamber of Commerce staff and Board of Directors, and to Hancock Pharmacy for their fun giveaway table!

Your support and enthusiasm made this celebration truly unforgettable. Together, we’re building a future without limits!

ANCOR’s 2025 Policy Summit and Hill Day (Sept. 2025)

Providers from all over the country attended ANCOR’s 2025 Policy Summit and Hill Day. Latavia Harge and Bob Thureson were part of a group of 17 from various providers across the state who went to Washington to meet with our Congressional and Senate members to discuss the following:

  • Asking for federal investment in Medicaid I/DD services and Congressional support to help providers strengthen workforces and ensure sustainable services for individuals with I/DD and their families.
  • Protecting I/DD services against further cuts.
  • Supporting increased funding for home- and community-based disability services by endorsing the HCBS Relief Act (H.R. 4029/S.2076), which would provide increased federal match for states for two years in their Home- and Community-Based Services programs.
  • Supporting the Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act, which will be reintroduced by both members of the House and Senate (Democrats and Republicans). This legislation seeks the creation of a Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) with the Department of Labor. Currently, there is no set SOC for DSPs, who are scattered across multiple SOC categories. The information gathered would assist policymakers in making informed decisions to address the DSP workforce crisis.
  • Opposing any future legislation that would cut Medicaid.

At each stop, the group introduced themselves and their agencies while asking for support of the above initiatives.

The first day was packed with presentations leading up to our Capitol Hill visits—a very hectic but exciting experience.

Capitol Funding Rally 5/20/25
MidState was proud to stand alongside so many incredible advocates demanding fair funding for nonprofits. Every voice, every sign, every presence made a statement: our work matters, and so do the people we serve.

Family Hearing at the Capitol 3/6/25

Huge Success at the Family Hearing! Earlier this month, we had an incredible turnout at the Family Hearing at the Capitol, where we stood alongside families and advocates to address the critical delays in wheelchair and scooter repairs. 💙♿

The voices of those impacted were heard loud and clear, and we are grateful for the opportunity to push for real change! Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared their stories, and supported this important cause. Together, we are making a difference! 💪
