"Any accomplishment is a big accomplishment. There is no size limit or cap for it. If there’s something that you want to do, it’s huge for you and you want to be able to feel good for yourself, and cross those barriers that others may have thought you’d never be able to do. At MidState Arc we’re helping the individuals we serve cross barriers every single day."
-Kathryn Wood, Director of Community Integration
Overview

Independent Living at MidState Arc
I.H.S. (In-Home Supports) is a support provided to people living in their own apartments or in their family home. MidState Arc works with the person and their support team to identify the community they want to live in and provide the staffing supports needed to make sure this life choice is successful for them. This process includes a series of assessments including, but not limited to: MidState Arc’s Independent Living Assessment, an Assistive Technology Assessment, a Medical Assessment by a Healthcare Coordinator, and Transportation and Behavioral/Clinical Assessments as needed.
MidState Arc provides the direct support hours, coordination of services and support the person needs to build connections and resources in their community. In this program the intent is not to do things for the person, but to connect them to the resources needed to enable and encourage them to be as independent as possible. The process of moving from a 24-hour care model to one of independent living, like all major life changes, takes time to adjust to. The transition into this type of service is a process that occurs over time and is continually evaluated throughout the person's participation in this service model.
MidState Arc’s
Philosophy on Independent Living
Midstate Arc, in active partnership with families, promotes and advocates for people of all ages living with developmental disabilities, helping them to reach their full potential and become valued, respected, and connected members of their community through all means including Assistive Technologies.
